Unity Lake State Park & Hunting
Just a quick 10 minute drive from the Ranch, enjoy a day of swimming or fishing at Unity Lake (bass, croppie and trout). Or bring your boat to ski, swim or explore this vast and expansive Reservoir. The day-use area has picnic tables on a large expanse of lawn has ample shade. This area includes a boat ramp, boat trailer parking, restrooms and water. Open year-round, and attracts anglers for ice fishing in the winter.
Spring and fall are the best seasons for fishing. Come October, many visitors use the campground as a base for hunting big game and upland birds on nearby public land in the Umatilla, Malhuer, and Wallowa-Whitman National Forests.
Also observe wildlife native to Eastern Oregon
in their natural habitats, offering unique photography and nature experiences.
Hunting & Staying at the Ranch
The Ranch is surrounded by two hunting units--Beulah and North Sumpter. Please inquire for hunting opportunities--elk, bear and deer--and renting the home during hunting season.
Additional Activities & Restaurant
The Wallowa-Whitman National Forest borders the Ranch to the east. The Yellow Pine Hiking Trail is minutes from the Ranch and located here.
Blue Mountain Off Highway Vehicle Trails
Groomed 4-Wheeler/ATV and Snowmobile Trails
Wildlife viewing opportunities in the three wilderness areas that are within 30 miles of Unity: Monument Rock, Strawberry Mountain, and North Fork John Day.
The nearby mining town of Sumpter and
Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area offer
a unique daytrip opportunity. The centerpiece is the 125-foot floating dredge that excavated $4.5 million in gold between 1935 and 1954. The dredge is open seasonally for tours, and a nature trail leads through the dredged area and past a maze of ponds. During the summer, the Sumpter Valley Railroad offers tours of the area.
